Last summer, square enix brought its jrpg expertise to the nintendo switch with octopath traveler. the game told the story of eight different heroes each on their own journey and was a hit with fans and critics alike. it was an engaging way to tell a story, with a retro-style 16-bit era graphical presentation as well. fantastically, especially for gamers without a switch, square enix has accidentally shown today that an octopath traveler pc version is coming this summer.

As reported by Gematsu, Square Enix revealed the news in a blog post, which was deleted soon afterward. The publication grabbed hold of the content, however. Firstly, we learned that the game releases on June 7, 2019. It will be available on Steam and the Square Enix store. Unfortunately, the content doesn’t reveal a price. The rest of the post describes Octopath, claiming that this is “the first time non-Nintendo owners can experience the game.” This news comes shortly after the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea rated a PC version of the title.

As you may know, Octopath allows players to swap between the eight stories whenever they please. Each character has their own special ability that can be used outside of combat. Fights are turn-based, with a focus on “breaking” the enemy shield so you can attack. This system rewards players who pay attention to strengths and weaknesses, similar to many RPG titles before it.

Octopath Traveler is a project from the minds of Masashi Takahashi and Tomoya Asano of the Bravely franchise. The game was so popular in Japan that gamers couldn’t find physical copies during the first two weeks of release. There, Octopath sold 188,238 physical copies in just two months. The game went on to sell a million copies by August 2018, and 1.5 million by January of this year.

On top of this, we saw last month that an Octopath Traveler prequel is coming to iPhone and Android. There’s no release date, however, but we’re aware that the game is free-to-play and will change things up a little. Now we just need to know if Octopath will come to PS4 or Xbox.
