Samsung announces the Galaxy Fold, its first foldable smartphone

4.4
Samsung has finally announced its first-ever foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold. The smartphone features a 7.3-inch QXGA+ display on the inside in a 4.2:3 aspect ratio, as well as a smaller 4.6-inch HD+ display on the outside, with a 21:9 aspect ratio, that can be used with just one hand.

One of the highlight features of the folding smartphone is the ability to transition from the smaller screen to the bigger one and seamlessly continue what you were doing, what Samsung calls App Continuity. Once you open up the phone, you can also use the big screen to multitask with up to three apps open at the same time, so you can browse the web and talk to your friends at the same time.

To accommodate the folding design, Samsung has split the battery into two parts, one on each half of the phone's body. The two batteries add up to 4,380mAh of capacity, which is pretty significant for a smartphone.

That's not all that's impressive about this phone, though, as it comes with 512GB of storage and 12GB of RAM, and it's the first smartphone support Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 3.0. Additionally, it's one of the first smartphones to support 5G out of the box. There will be an LTE version as well, though.

The camera setup is also eye-catching. There are three cameras on the outside and another three on the inside for a total of six. The camera setup on the back features a 16MP ultra-wide angle camera, a regular "wide-angle" 12MP shooter adjustable aperture and OIS, and a 12MP telephoto sensor, also with OIS. The inner cameras are a combination of a 10MP selfie camera and an 8MP depth sensor, and the cover camera is a regular 10MP camera for selfies.

The Galaxy Fold is going to be available on April 26, and there will be a few colors to choose from. You can even choose a different color for the hinge and the back of the phone. All of this will be very expensive, though, with the Fold starting at a whopping $1,980. If you gasped at the $1000 price tag of the iPhone X in 2017, this will make you do it all over again.

This is unbelievable, crazy to see how they did it. Looks pretty damn thick when it's in phone mode but the tablet mode looks nice as hell. Pretty damn cool and I think it will only get better

This is actually pretty cool. However, it is bound to have glitches. I would consider buying a gen 2 or 3. Let the Samsung enthusiast have all the problems now.
