Razer Game Store is Officially Shutting Down at the End of This Month

3.8
After nearly a year since it launched, Razer has announced that it will be shutting down its digital games store at the end of February.

As one of the biggest names in gaming hardware, Razer has delivered everything from top of the line keyboards and mice to various other gaming peripherals. After attempting to branch out into the software side of things with the Razer Game Store, it appears that this initiative will be coming to an abrupt end.

Over on their official website, Razer has announced that the company will be shutting down the Razer Game Store on February 28, 2019 at 1am PT (4am ET), giving users a few weeks to redeem their outstanding game keys before the shut down.

According to Razer, the Store’s shutdown comes as a result of the “company’s realignment plans,” adding that the company will instead be “investing in other ways to deliver great content and introduce game promotions through Razer Gold,” which is their virtual credits/reward system.

In an FAQ section for the announcement, Razer confirmed that all games that users have purchased/redeemed from the Razer Game Store following the closure will still be available for download (through either Steam or Uplay), but users must redeem any codes they haven’t yet by February 28.

In addition to games that have already been purchased by users, Razer also confirmed that any pre-ordered titles through the Razer Game Store will still be fulfilled and delivered to users upon their release.

Given that the PC gaming marketplace is becoming an increasingly crowded space thanks to recent competitors like the Epic Games Store, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that Razer didn’t seem to be able to find their way into the space, especially given that they are more well-known for hardware.
