Valve’s Artifact Struggling to Even Hit 1,000 Concurrent Players

The status of Artifact keeps getting worse and worse meaning Valve likely needs to take action sooner rather than later to save the game.
Valve’s latest game Artifact hasn’t even been out for three months but already, the game’s community is nearly nonexistent.

When we last reported on player counts for Artifact back in January, the game was still reaching concurrent player totals of about 3,000 each day. Since that time though, the community has continued to shrink further and further. As of now, Artifact is struggling to even hit concurrent player totals of 1,000 every day, which is pretty crazy considering Valve is the one behind this game, after all.

Within the past week, Artifact’s concurrent players peaked around 1300 in total last Saturday. Within the past 24-hours, the game’s concurrent player peak was a mere 937 players. As of this writing, the number of people playing in the past hour was at 637. By comparison, the Dota Auto Chess custom game mode in Dota 2 which has taken the PC world by storm this year has seen 300K concurrent players playing it within the past day.

At this point, the player totals for Artifact have gone from being an early concern in the game’s life to now being a legitimately major issue for Valve. If Valve wants this game to have any sort of longevity whatsoever and potentially save the player base, you’d imagine something needs to be done quickly. It still feels a bit too soon to perhaps maybe make the game free-to-play, but considering their users continue to shrink as it is, maybe it’d be worth taking that hit purely to bring more players into the fold.
