Activision Announces Voluntary Refund Program for Guitar Hero Live

4.1
If you purchased Guitar Hero Live between December 1, 2017, and January 1, 2019, you may be eligible for a refund.
Activision announced they will allow those who purchased Guitar Hero Live to receive a refund if they meet certain criteria.

According to the blog post from Activision, you have to have purchased Guitar Hero Live in the United States between the periods of December 1, 2017, and January 1, 2019. It probably goes without saying but that means any Guitar Hero Live purchases made before the first date and after the last date will not be covered. Also, this only pertains to the “gaming system” or the bundle that came with the game and the guitar peripheral.

If you met that criteria, you must submit a completed Claim Form by May 1, 2019. The Guitar Hero Live purchase also must be confirmed by Activision. The post claims that having the receipt of the purchase is the surest way to receive a full refund. Those who want don’t use or can’t find a receipt can use a credit card statement to verify their purchase. When doing so, they can hide all the information from that statement except their name, date of purchase, the name of the store, and the amount spent on Guitar Hero Live. Those who don’t have a receipt or card statement can still complete a form and Activision will try to verify the purchase.

If you are eligible for a refund, you will receive a pre-paid Visa card within eight to 12 weeks after the close of the claim period. It is also noted that refunds may vary depending on the purchase price (obviously) and that Activision can deny or approve any claims (also obviously).

So, why is this voluntary refund program even happening? In December, Activision shut down the GHTV service in Guitar Hero Live. GHTV was essentially a streaming service that contained curated setlists from different genres and bands; it also played the music video of the song in the background which was a really nice touch. This took off loads of songs from the game including my two favorite songs to play in the game, “Supersoaker” by Kings of Leon and “Under Cover of Darkness” by The Strokes.

Guitar Hero Live is available now for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, and iOS devices but don’t expect a refund if you purchase it now.
