2K Games Establishes New Studio Helmed by Call of Duty Veteran

Michael Condrey, a co-founder of Sledgehammer Games and creator of Dead Space, has been announced to lead a new studio under 2K Games.

Take-Two Interactive announced today that it has founded a new 2K Games studio in Silicon Valley that will be led by an industry veteran that has worked on some of the biggest franchises in gaming.

Michael Condrey, a co-founder of Sledgehammer Games and former COO at Visceral Games, will serve as the President of this new 2K Games Studio. Condrey’s past work has included that of a litany of Call of Duty titles such as Advanced Warfare, Modern Warfare 3, and most recently, WWII. He also helped create and establish the Dead Space IP in his time at Visceral Games.

According to Take-Two, Condrey will build and lead a new team at this studio to work on a project that has yet to be announced. Considering this studio is just now getting off the ground, whatever this game ends up becoming likely won’t be heard from for quite some time.

“2K’s studios have creative and technical autonomy, backed by a world-class infrastructure of support, and that offers the perfect recipe to build a new studio and craft experiences that will lead the next generation of gaming for fans everywhere,” Condrey said of his joining of 2K. “Today’s announcement represents a rare and special opportunity for developers to help build and shape a new Silicon Valley studio from the ground up. I couldn’t be more excited, or thankful, to embark on this next step in my career.”

President of 2K David Ismailer also chimed in on today’s news saying, “Michael’s unparalleled creative, production and leadership accolades are well-documented and deserved. We are greatly inspired not only by his passion but the potential for his new studio to complement our existing portfolio and development expertise.”

In total, 2K Games is now the sole owner of five studios with the other four being Visual Concepts, Firaxis Games, Hangar 13, and Cat Daddy Games. As of the past year or so, 2K as a whole really hasn’t released any standout original games other than annualized sports franchises. With rumors of a new Bioshock in the works though and now the advent of this new studio led by Condrey, it seems like 2K could be poised to make some noise here towards the end of this current console generation or towards the start of the next cycle.

Why is everyone jumping too conclusions that this game will be designed to kill cod.... It could be anything.... And it will most likely have nothing to do with it

All call of duty needs to do to revive themself is create a COD like the old cods. Meaning Modern guns, no crazy jetpacks/jumping. add better graphics, add more customizations like creating your own player, have top notch gun customization like in Escape from Tarkov and the game would live again. But it seems like every call of duty they make just keeps getting worse.

Oh sweet Jesus can we just lay the call of duty series to rest instead of having someone else try to compete with it. My thinking is they are gonna title a game called the "call of duty killer" by a cod creater himself and is that what anyone even wants for a series that is heavily oversaturated as it is?
