Sony Announces PlayStation-Branded Seagate External Hard Drive

4.7
Earlier today, Sony announced that it's partnered with the hard drive giant Seagate to produce a PlayStation-branded game drive for the PlayStation 4.

As most people who have current-gen consoles will tell you, one of the biggest problem gamers have these days is memory. Today, Sony revealed one of the ways it’s trying to mitigate this issue: a brand new PlayStation-licensed Seagate External Hard Drive for the PlayStation 4.

According to Sony, this new “Game Drive” features 2TB of storage and is optimized for any version of PlayStation 4, meaning it’s usable on both the launch, Slim, and Pro versions of the console, so long as it’s running version 4.55 of the system software. On top of that, unlike some external hard drives that work with the console, this one works right out of the box, with no need for formatting. And it even looks similar to your PS4, so it’ll match ascetically.

While not shocking, it is nice to finally see Seagate partnering with Sony. A few years back, Xbox partnered with the hard drive giant for the same reason, and ended up producing a hard drive that worked with both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

If you want to get your hands on the Seagate Game Drive, you’ll have to drop a bit of a pretty penny, as it’ll set you back $89.99. The hard drive is set to launch sometime next week.

This isn't a bad move, but I always just buy hard drive and the brand never really matters to me.

Great move for sony however I have always bought external drives never worried much about the brand my 4TB external drive does the trick.

Decy Microsoft did the same thing and overcharged for it.. i think they just think if they slap the brands name on a drive its worth more.. Pretty easy to just go and get any ordinary external drive and use it.

I'm sure loads of clueless people and parents will buy this because they don't understand. Will consider this the best for the console in some way.

Redacted Don't see the point. Other drives work just as good. Mine still works and was cheaper than that

Couldn't agree more. The only selling points they have it is the same color as the PS4 and doesn't need to be formatted first. 2 things that don't matter at all.
