Though this isn’t an issue that PC players ever run into (not those with higher end setups anyway), games on consoles usually run at capped frame rates, so that they can’t ever go above 30 frames per second (or 60, as the case may be). When they drop below that figure, players can often visibly see the game stuttering, which, obviously, isn’t ideal. However, it seems like that won’t be an issue with Ubisoft’s upcoming The Division 2.

Well, on the Xbox One X, at any rate. The game’s listing on the official Microsoft store mentions “Variable Refresh Rate” under its “capabilities” section. What that amounts to is that players can unlock the game’s frame rate, so that it can go above 30 frames per second if needed, so that even if the frame rate does ever drop, it won’t do so in a manner that the game noticeably stutters.

Having such an option is a bonus in any game, of course, but more so in a twitch shooter like The Division 2 (especially considering its online dependancies, as well). Not a lot of games support variable refresh rates, even on the Xbox One X (Gears of War 4 is one such game), so it’s good to see Ubisoft taking the extra step.

Of course, as I mentioned earlier, this isn’t really an issue with the PC version of the game (or any game, in most cases). You can check out the game’s official PC system requirements through here if you’re looking to have the best possible experience.

The Division 2 launches on March 15 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game’s story will apparently be roughly 40 hours long, while Ubisoft has also promised that plenty of post-launch content – including missions, maps, and PvP modes – will be arriving for free as well.
