God of War Director Explains Lack of DLC for the Game

3.9
Surprisingly enough, God of War ended up getting no DLC. It’s not like the game lacked success—it sold incredibly well, and its critical reception was overwhelmingly positive. And Sony games have received DLC previously, such as Horizon: Zero Dawn, which got The Frozen Wilds a few months after launch.

So why not God of War? Well, it turns out that director Cory Barlog did have a plan to launch DLC for the game, but those plans were scuppered. Because the DLC he was planning, it turns out, was so ambitious that it would have been more of its own standalone thing—much like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy ended up becoming.

“It would end up being its own thing,” Barlog said on the GameOverGreggy Show. “Rightfully so, everybody had said to me, ‘Dude, this is crazy. This isn’t DLC, it’s a little too big.'”

In such a case, I can entirely understand Barlog and Sony Santa Monica wanting to just move on to the sequel, and save their plans for that, rather than spend time on DLC of that scope. It’s a shame, because more of God of War would have been incredible. But hey, I’d rather they save their energies for the sequel and go all out there—so I won’t complain about this decision either.

I think this is a good move from the perspective of the overall preservation of God of War.

Sounds like a pretty dumb excuse, could have made this game even bigger than it already was if they did dlc or just an add on to the game
