Twitch Viewership Up This Year as Ninja Dominates in 2018

3.3
Twitch viewership skyrocketed in 2018, with streamers such as Ninja boasting over 200 million hours of views on the platform.
It’s been an amazing year for Twitch, to say the least. Thanks to major games such as League of Legends and Fortnite, viewership has spiked up almost double compared to last year.

According to analytics taken by The Esports Observer, Fortnite streamer Ninja topped the charts in hours viewed by far. With roughly 226 million hours viewed, Ninja has over double the viewers of the channel in second place: League of Legend’s Riot Games. Shroud comes in third place with about 97 million views. Interestingly, all three of these channels tower over last year’s top creators — which had the top performer (Summit1g) sitting with roughly 71 million.

Other noteworthy entries include The Overwatch League’s channel, which finished off its inaugural season and is looking to improve it’s Twitch Community by making commenters link their Battle.net.

It’s no surprise that 2018 was definitely the year for streaming. With celebrity interest and esports’ rising popularity, streaming may well be on its way to becoming the most dominant media source. When you have people like Ninja, getting unheard of views while streaming it’s hard to not notice the Twitch’s impact.

In other recent Twitch-related news, streamer DrLupo raised over $1 million this past year towards St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital. He hit his goal during his 24-hour stream, raising over $600,000 during that stream alone.

Fortnite in general made twitch blow up this year, but that certainly is in part cause of ninja. Great to see the impact gaming has finally make it to the real world and everyone knows about it now.
