Blacklight dev calls Call of Duty Elite “sad” and “weird”

Jared Gerritzen, lead designer on Zombie Studios’ upcoming free-to-play shooter Blacklight: Retribution, has called Activision a bunch of jerks for introducing premium service Call of Duty Elite.“I don’t agree with it,” Gerritzen told Gamasutra.

“Right now, if they could, they’d charge 60 bucks, then 20 bucks a month for a map pack – or even just one map – and then $9 to upload game movies to YouTube.

“They see this massive fan base, and why aren’t they spending that money and evolving the game even more?”

Although he admits the Call of Duty series is “amazing”, Gerritzen said Activision hadn’t done anything new with the games for at least four iterations.

“That’s the sad part. Think about if they tried to spend that money that they’re trying to milk from the fans,” he said.

“It’s sad. It’s really weird. But there’s always going to be that guy; there’s always going to be the jerk.”

i am a really big cod can but this is stupid i can upload my own videos to youtube for FREE the only time i will be paying for the service is when the map packs are getting close to comming out. Activison said if you pay for the serverice before the map packs comeout you can download them the day they come out for "free". free as in i donthave to go to the store to get MS points but anyway i find this to be a huge waste of resources when they could be spending time fixing hit detection make new game modes new guns more guns also dedi servers OR better yet make it so xbox users can HOST THERE OWN SERVERS LIKE ON PC

make it better ???? its going to be shit. cause iam not going to pay 10$ or something each month for the game. thats why i pirate games cause they try to make us pay for everythink.

I agree that this is sad.. I mean like, why offer us to spend 10$ a month for V.I.P privileges and all this cool stuff... I mean like where is our financial benefit.. There is none for us only for the company.. What do you need the extra money for? You guys already broke a sales record.. They might break another one.. Theres your money right there.. So why do they want $60+$10 a month optional fee with Elite... This is all for a game company that can be shut down anytime... It's even worse with this economy..

I don't get why he hates it. Elite is free, with optional premium services you don't need but are there for the very hardcore gamers. He's probably mad because Blacklight is going to suck, I should know, I actually wasted MS points on Tango Down.
