Hitman 2 Launch Sales at Retail Down 90% from Hitman Absolution

3.9
While Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, alongside Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, all did well on launch in the UK, it seems like less kid friendly games may have run into more trouble. Hitman 2, for example, had a very rough go of things. The game debuted at tenth place on the All Formats Chart (meaning the individual SKUs would have charted even lower), and its launch sales are, according to Gfk-Tracker via GamesIndustry, a staggering 90% down compared to launch week sales for Hitman: Absolution, which launched back in 2012.

Before people bring up the fact that a Hitman game launched between then and Hitman 2, yes it did. However, the 2016 Hitman was at first available only digitally via an episodic format, and got a retail release much later, meaning it hardly serves as an appropriate point of comparison.

The important thing to note here is that Gfk-Tracker only tracks physical sales. The share of digital sales is obviously larger now than it was back in 2012. So the drop is definitely not 90%. But it is nonetheless a drop, because there is no way the digital sales of the game were enough to account for a 90% drop at retail

Hitman 2 is a great game, and IO Interactive deserves success for making a fantastic stealth game at a time no other developer will approach the genre, so I hope the game’s long term sales are better than this, and that it fares better in other territories than it has in the UK. Plus, if you buy the game now, you get a chance to try and kill Sean Bean, and I think that’s a wonderful incentive to get this game right away.

Potion Marketing for this game is non-existent. Only fans of the series would even know that it is released.

Exactly and with all these other new games releasing that are all huge names ain't helping their case. I've honestly been buying more games these last 2 months than I've had in years probably because I got some extra cash and the games have all been fire but not once have I really thought about picking up the new hitman.

On top of that, let's throw it out for sale right when a huge amount of AAA games are going to be released.
