'Fallout 76' Is Already Getting Review Bombed

3.4
Fallout 76 has officially been out for just under a day, but disgruntled users are already blasting the game on Metacritic.

Unofficially launched for PC players on Tuesday, Fallout 76 is now live for all players across every platform, but the number of user reviews it’s received so far would make you think it’s been out for a much longer period of time. Regardless of whether you look at the reviews for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC version of the game on Metactritic, you’ll find the same story of hundreds of reviews already being submitted from users, all ratios overwhelmingly titling into the red with “0” and other low-number scores seen often. The highest the game ever gets on any of the platforms is an average of 2.8 for the PlayStation 4 version, a score that’s comprised of over 400 negative user reviews.

“Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle,” one of the negative reviews marked as the “Most Helpful” for the PC version said. “Tries to facilitate the needs of both online multiplayer fans and single player fallout fans, and both portions of the experience suffer for it. An entirely PVP game or an entirely co-op game would have worked better, this just feels like an uninspired vessel for their amusingly well fleshed out microtransaction shop.”

The issues brought up in these types of reviews aren’t new problems that emerged with the full release of the game either. That doesn’t make the complaints less relevant if that’s why the users don’t like the game, but many of the issues raised in these negative reviews are the same problems people have taken with the game since it was announced: A lack of NPCs, suggestions for how multiplayer could've better been implemented, and comments about how “This isn’t a Fallout game” were frequently seen in the red reviews across all three platforms.

There are some reviews that point out more specific issues with the game, but he overwhelming amount of negative reviews coming out the day the game released makes for a classic review bomb scenario. These types of review bombs are most commonly seen on Steam, but with the game not released on that platform and instead housed in Bethesda’s launcher on the PC platform, people have turned to Metacritic to voice their concerns, warranted and backed with in-game experience or not.

Fallout 76 is now available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and our full review should be prepared and released by Friday.

Being an avid Fallout fan, I preordered the $80 version of the game, and played the beta. I started to get into the beta a bit with one of my friends who purchased a code online, and I was enjoying myself regardless of the buggy gameplay and FPS problems. I have a very high end PC and don't have any trouble on games, so I knew it was something on Bethesda's end. After the release, without playing with friends, I have a hard time spending more than 20 minutes at a time on the game. Without NPC's, I feel like there isn't really much of a purpose of playing. There's no roots in the game. I really enjoyed indulging in Fallout games in the past, and I was one of those who really loved the hell out of Fallout 4. I played through that game at least 8 times already including the DLC. This game doesn't really have the effect on me, despite having a new map and everything. I get randomly shot at by other players for no reason because they think they're playing Fortnite or something. I want to be able to build relationships with NPCs and whatever, just like the old games. I know there are "missions" and whatnot in Fallout 76, but I feel like I'm more or less running around aimlessly, collecting a bunch of junk, bringing it to my stash, and repeating until I get bored and hop on Destiny. I honestly would've been much happier with a $20 expansion to Fallout 4 that brought OPTIONAL multiplayer servers with a co-op open world campaign to the game.

Personally from everything I've seen, it's been a pretty rough launch for 76 thus far...

Maze All of the negative reviews I see are just people hating on online play, which is literally the point of this game. I guess if you're an OG fallout player and haven't liked the idea from the beginning I see where you're coming from, but you can't hate on them for trying this out, I thought it was about time.

Have you played the game? As someone who owns and plays the game, all the negative reviews I've seen make total sense. The game seems to run at a constant 15fps, the graphics are somehow worse than fallout 4, the lack of rad-away and stimpacks is ridiculous, and the lack of weapons and the way melee weapons function is terrible. You're lucky if you can find anything other than a pipe-pistol as an actual gun, and with the melee weapons you for some reason can only hit a single enemy at a time. Fallout 76 is somehow fallout 4 but even worse. Bethesda literally has no idea on how to make new games anymore.

This comment is the type of comment I hate. You sir/madam quite clearly talk like you play the game but have only used nonsense trash talk people on Reddit are saying! Is this the perfect game? Absolutely NOT! Am I going to fanboy defend Bethesda? No way, the game is a complete mess and needs work! But am I going to call out bs? 100% YES!

There were some issues in the beta with loot spawns and weapons etc, but alot of this has been patched since release. I have many hours in the released game since Tuesday, and what you are talking about is complete rubbish. I have a whole plethora of different weapons, and find new ones all the time. In fact, I cannot actually remember the last time I got a Pipe weapon?! So its total rubbish. As for the "15 fps" thats bs since release as well, and believe me I know... the beta was awful for me with huge fps drops constantly. I know someone who games on a laptop (I know, I know) and they couldnt even play the beta because of fps really, but the final game is fine for them also. Rad-away and Stimpacks are a little rare, but I still have plenty! Im never finding that I dont have a single one in my inventory or stash... so yet again more bull. Melee weapons hitting single enemies I cant comment on as I dont use melee, Im a shotgun type myself... I also would state I dont believe Fallout 76 is "worse" than Fallout 4, I have had a blast playing it so far, but thats just my OPINION and not fact.

Either way I feel like you are just another person reading some comments online and posting it like its first hand accounts. I struggle to believe you are " someone who owns and plays the game" as you are so wrong with the things you are saying, but its the same bull thats all over the web atm... I really couldnt care less if people dont like the game, it doesnt affect me playing and enjoying myself, but it does annoy me when people grab a torch and pitchfork and join the rally when they havent even tried the game...

Half baked online game with a full price. Would have been fine if this was like $20 or something. I don't know why people love bethesda, they release games with the same bugs they have had for 10 years. Why not just bring online play to fallout 4 with a $20 expansion?
