The Division 2 – Ubisoft Details “True Sons”, A New Faction

4.5
Ubisoft have released a very interesting update that details one of the factions that will be present in the upcoming The Division 2. And knowing how important factions are going to be in this game, and how their interactions with each other might shape much of the experience, it’s some pretty important information.

The True Sons are, interestingly enough, former members of the Joint Task Force who seem to have taken a dark turn. They’ve turned into “radical mutineers and trained criminals”, whose ultimate goal seems to be domination, and hold the belief that the only way that they can help America rise again from the pandemic is through more bloodshed. Under the leadership of Colonel Antwon Ridgeway, a man of strong beliefs who grew disillusioned with the JTF, the True Sons went from being a a branch of the organization to being an entirely separate (and militant) organization.

“True Sons do not think twice about making examples out of people to further ensure obedience,” Ubisoft’s update reads. “Either you join them, or you die. Whoever and whatever stands in-between True Sons and General Ridgeway’s position as absolute rulers of Washington D.C. will be eliminated.”

It also seems like the True Sons are going to be tough adversaries in combat, which makes sense given that they are trained soldiers who once belonged with the JTF. This will entail everything from attempts at flanking you during firefights, to becoming increasingly more desperate and dangerous if they feel the tide of the fight is turning against them. The True Sons will all also belong to one of ten archetypes, with having “their own unique behavior and mechanisms”. The Medic, for example, is equipped with defibrillators, which he can use to both revive teammates, and shock allies. You can also shoot at the defibrillators to destroy them, which will also shock both, the Medic himself, as well as anyone in his vicinity.

There’s a lot of other really interesting information in the update, especially about the backstory and lore of the True Sons, so be sure to check it out through the link provided above. In case you’re looking for gameplay footage, Ubisoft actually released quite a bit of it at PAX West last month- you can check it out through here. Meanwhile, The Division 2 will also be playable at X018 next month.

The Division 2 launches on March 15 next year for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
