Alan Wake Returns to Steam Thanks to Renegotiating Music Licenses

3.9
Over a year after its removal from digital platforms due to music licenses expiring, Alan Wake is back on Steam thanks to some help from Microsoft.

Big thanks to our partner and Alan Wake’s publishers @Microsoft who were able to renegotiate the rights to the licensed music in Alan Wake, so that the game can be sold again.

Now that it is back on Steam, just in time for Halloween, you can also get the game for the deeply discounted price of $3.00 USD instead of the usual $14.99. Alan Wake was removed from digital platforms on May 16, 2017 due to music licenses expiring. Each chapter in Alan Wake ends with a credits sequence that includes licensed music, and because most licenses only have a set time that they last, it was removed once they expired. However, thanks to help from Microsoft, those licenses were able to be re-negotiated, though for how long is not currently known, and you can now purchase the game if you have never experienced this 2010 thriller from Remedy Entertainment.

It's crazy how when a game loses licenses for music you can not sell it anymore, but I am glad they work towards getting them back so they can continue to sell the games.

And only $3? Oh hell yeah! Great news.
