As one of the most anticipated titles of the fall, Red Dead Redemption 2 is aiming to deliver players a much deeper and more immersive open-world than we’ve ever seen before, and a key component of that will be how players interact with its environment and the animals that players will find.

Rockstar Games has released some new information and images from Red Dead Redemption 2, with the developer this time around focusing on the game’s assortment of wildlife and a deep, complex ecosystem around them.

Alongside highlighting many of the fauna that players will find in the game — such as wolves, bears, horses, and much more — Rockstar also highlighted that the game will feature over 200 different species of animals, birds, fish, which will “behave and response to their environment in a unique way.”

With such a wide assortment of animals and other species present, players will need to utilize hunting and fishing as they provide “food, materials, and a source of income.” As a result, players will need to pay careful attention to the type of equipment they are using to hunt, such as using “the right gauge of rile for the size of the animal that you’re hunting,” while shot placement and your choice in weaponry will also impact the quality of the meats and pelts that you claim from your successful kills.
