PUBG graphics on Xbox One X getting downgraded temporarily

Despite hitting version 1.0 recently, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds still suffers from severe performance problems on Xbox One X, so much so that the game’s developer is turning down settings.

PUBG Corp. has revealed in a new developer letter that PUBG on Xbox One X is about to get some temporary graphical downgrades.

Frame-rate drops were cited as the main reason behind this decision, with a hotfix coming tomorrow that should hopefully alleviate these. While the main resolution and texture quality will remain unchanged, a number of graphical effects are either being turned off or switched to a lower setting.

Shadow quality and Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) are having their quality decreased, alongside the number of overall particles possible in each scene. Motion blur, depth of field, lens flare, Screen Space Reflection (SSR), refraction, Subsurface Scattering (SSS), and particle light are all getting turned off.



PUBG Corp. apologised for this, adding that the situation is not ideal and stressing that it’s only a temporary solution. The developer is also working on implementing two graphical modes on Xbox One X, one favours frame-rate while the other, performance.

Though PUBG Corp. didn’t reveal frame-rate or resolution targets for these two modes, it did promise to share more details as they become available.

If it improves performance I am all for it as graphics are not everything.

People don't understand how behind console is from PC. You can't expect it to be up to par with PC graphics. Sucks that they had to downgrade the graphics considering that's the purpose of the Xbox One X's specs. It won't be for too long though.

lbreadstickl Thank god. Just started to play again and my reticle jumps around when aiming while moving. Not smooth at all. Would rather prioritize performance over graphics, that's what I did for monster hunter when I played that and it looked and felt so much better. Can't wait


It's never been smooth on xbox since the day it was released they're jut trying too damn hard for something they know they wont achieve

It's never gonna compare to the gfx on the PC, no matter how much time and money they spend on it lol.


No game on console can compare to a pc game with graphics. They just need to get it to play a little similar to call of duty


Hell no PC has the best graphics hands down. Nothing will beat it

PUBG could be an outstanding game but so many issues on console for one. The game could be outstanding but they are far from that. I mean buggy achievements on day one, please.
