Despite hitting version 1.0 recently, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds still suffers from severe performance problems on Xbox One X, so much so that the game’s developer is turning down settings.

PUBG Corp. has revealed in a new developer letter that PUBG on Xbox One X is about to get some temporary graphical downgrades.

Frame-rate drops were cited as the main reason behind this decision, with a hotfix coming tomorrow that should hopefully alleviate these. While the main resolution and texture quality will remain unchanged, a number of graphical effects are either being turned off or switched to a lower setting.

Shadow quality and Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) are having their quality decreased, alongside the number of overall particles possible in each scene. Motion blur, depth of field, lens flare, Screen Space Reflection (SSR), refraction, Subsurface Scattering (SSS), and particle light are all getting turned off.



PUBG Corp. apologised for this, adding that the situation is not ideal and stressing that it’s only a temporary solution. The developer is also working on implementing two graphical modes on Xbox One X, one favours frame-rate while the other, performance.

Though PUBG Corp. didn’t reveal frame-rate or resolution targets for these two modes, it did promise to share more details as they become available.
