Fortnite’s Newest Switch Update Blocks Video Capture Feature

4.2
Fortnite has been having some performance issues on the Nintendo Switch. Epic Games promised that they are looking into them, and that they hope to resolve them with the next major update for the game that they release. True to their word, they did release a new update aimed at fixing the performance problems with the Switch version of the game.

One of the ways the game does that, apparently, is by blocking the Switch’s video recording functionality. The functionality works on a whitelist basis (in that games need to explicitly allow it, and it is not available by default), and is known to have some performance costs; presumably, Epic feels that disabling it leads to major gains in the game’s performance, or they wouldn’t have gone to the effort of blocking it.

It is unknown whether or not the change is permanent, and Epic themselves haven’t actually officially acknowledged it at all. Fortnite is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.

Yo
Mikey Well that sucks, I'm sure im not gonna grind Fortnite on the Switch anyways, but still would of been nice to have this feature.

I recently bought a switch but I have used it yet

My guy how could you have one and not use it!!

I guess I understand why it's being blocked if it really is causing performance issues, but I feel like they'll eventually add it again.

Blocking the one thing that people might actually want, gg.

Orca I don't see this being that big of an issue for people playing on the switch as I would see a lot the just playing casually. Saying that it is a pretty cool feature to lose because I'm sure people are still capable of hitting some nice clips on the switch

It would be really annoying to get on and hit a really insane clip and not be able to record it. They never said it's not coming back, so hopefully it returns before I get my switch

Pretty odd thing to do but it's whatever

They should keep this you could hit a 720 instaswap banger and can't capture it

If I'm honest the overall performance on the switch is just awful.

I agree with bun bun, not too many people NEED this, just a great addition to have. I also thought it was really weird seeing "Fortnite is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android" replace fortnite with practically any other game and it wouldn't work, crazy to see gaming times truly changing with games going to every single platform imaginable

Fortunately I think the majority of gamers playing on the Switch play casually.
