It Takes 5 Minutes To Cross Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout Map

3.8
According to GameInformer, it will take, roughly, five minutes to cross Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout map from its two farthest away points. In other words, some parts of the map may not even take five minutes to cross.

For context, it takes about 6-8 minutes to cross different parts of Fornite's map, which features up to 100 players, 20 more than Blackout's 80-player count.

It's also worth pointing out that Blackout features a more robust vehicle offering than Fortnite, meaning that you can cross its map even quicker than you can cross the map in Fortnite.

Given Call of Duty's heritage of being a fast-paced, action-packed shooter, a slightly smaller map that packs in more action into a more condensed area isn't very surprising. And to be honest, the map still looks pretty darn big (check it out for yourself here).

Nonetheless, some players weren't very pleased by the news.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is poised to release via PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12. Before then, a beta for the game's aforementioned Blackout mode is poised to arrive next week.

Eternity For even more comparison, it takes around 20-22 minutes to sprint across the original PUBG map (via howbigisthemap)

Seems like a tiny map, especially considering there are vehicles. It's probably just *another* limitation of the IW engine they keep using...

not a limitation people complained ghosts maps where too big so they made the maps smaller/normal cod size, plus if im not mistaken each version of the game is a upgraded engine of the quake 3 engine cods been using since the first one(id tech engine has been used in alot of games and modified) so it would be the community decides if they want bigger maps which cod fans are brain dead and dont know what they want, so i wouldnt say its a limitation more so a limitation on consoles

That's fair. Honestly I just wish they would take the time to make a new engine to keep COD from staying so copy-paste like it has been. This BR mode feels like the only "new" addition to COD since Zombies in WaW

I'll be watching gameplay of this game mode tonight; I am super skeptical about how they're going about BR. It's a pretty simple formula that is hard to screw up, but a large part of the excitement that people find in BR (in my opinion) is a very large map with geographical variety that leaves players finding new places and experiencing unfamiliar battles that, I have a feeling, players in BF4's BR won't be able to experience. The map is smaller; 5 minutes to cross the map on foot means it's very small. It does have a significantly lower player count when compared to other BR games but it will most likely feel pretty compact. This might also mean a lack of variety in scenery and locations; either that or it will be like running around a small city.

I'm also skeptical because I don't like the path that CoD has chosen to go down with the last, maybe 4, games that they have made. We'll see. I personally dont see myself buying another CoD unless it is a complete remaster of MW2.

Gameplay has confirmed what I've thought about this game mode all along.

Really not that long, watching gameplay makes it seem so much slower though. Probably cause you won't run across the map without seeing someone
