Over 95,000 Steam bans occurred this week, breaking last year’s record

3.5
On Wednesday, Valve’s Anti-Cheat technology starting kicking cheaters from the service. By the end of the day, 28,409 accounts were banned.

The largest cull took place the following day when 61,490 accounts were banned. As of yesterday 95,812 accounts had been banned by VAC this week alone.

In July 2017 Valve’s VAC system banned over 40,000 Steam users after the Summer Sale. At the time it was the largest wave of Steam bans in history.

As PCgamesN notes, the mass culling this week may be attributed to VAC identifying an unknown cheat and banning all accounts using it. The system monitors Ark: Survival Evolved, Call of Duty titles, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 and others.

You can keep track of the Steam bans for the week, month and the entire year over on SteamDB.
