Silent Hill 2 Secrets Unearthed 17 Years After the Game’s Release

4
17 years after its initial release it seems that Konami’s infamous survival horror game, Silent Hill 2, has still been holding onto a few secrets.

Data miner and Twitter user @punk_7890 discovered that there is a cheat code that allows for a mini-map to appear in the top right-hand corner of the screen. A second code grants access to a save anywhere function. Although the availability of a mini-map was previously uncovered by data miners, it was unknown how to actually access it in-game. This could be, in part, due to the fact that it is only available on the original PlayStation 2 release.

Accessing these features calls for more than simply typing in the corresponding cheat codes though. First, the player must unlock the game’s “Dog Ending” before the codes will work. In order to earn that particular ending, they must first have seen all the “In Water,” “Leave,” and “Maria” endings or have beaten the game and earned the “Rebirth” ending.

Silent Hill 2 isn’t the only game to keep kept its secrets from prying eyes for an extraordinarily long time, the original Mortal Kombat series also had some secrets buried inside that remained hidden for almost 25 years. In 2016 it was discovered that a complex button sequence unlocked a new set of options when punched into the original arcade cabinets for Mortal Kombat 1-3.

I wonder what other games have secrets that haven't been discovered yet.

Oh wow a secret save anywhere? That would have been useful along time ago.
