“If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it.”

Ever wondered why Skyrim – seemingly more than almost any other modern video game – is released over and over across platforms?

The answer is quite simple: millions of people are still playing it.

“Even now, the amount of people who play Skyrim seven years later — millions of people every month are playing that game,” Bethesda head Todd Howard told an audience at Gamelab (via VentureBeat). “That’s why we keep releasing it. If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it.”

Howard does add that this is part of a general trend in gaming as major publishers make it easier to replay gaming classics. Even at the moment of writing, Skyrim and its Special Edition are sitting at 38 and 39 on Steam’s most-played games stats. “It’s great for the industry,” he adds.

If you aren’t one of the millions playing Skyrim, you can find it today on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. And that’s not even getting into the Very Special Alexa edition that’s literally compatible with smart toilets.
