Bethesda suing Warner over Westworld title using Fallout Shelter code

3.7
According to a report, the new Westworld mobile title has nicked code from Fallout Shelter, and Bethesda is suing to have it removed from the marketplace.

Bethesda has claimes the new Westworld mobile title from Warner Bros. uses coding contained in Fallout Shelter.

TMZ reports it has documents in hand stating Bethesda is suing Warner over the game, and wants it pulled from the market.

Apparently, the developer of the game Behaviour Interactive was hired by Bethesda in 2014 to work on Fallout Shelter. Yesterday, the studio’s Westworld game was released on iOS and Android and has been in development since Westworld’s debut in 2016.

Proof the games feature the same code appears to come from a set of bugs: those in Westworld are the same as those in early versions of Fallout Shelter.

We’ll keep you up to date on this as more information becomes available, and should either Warner or Bethesda provide comment.

UPDATE: Bethesda Softworks provided a statement to Variety regarding its pursuit of legal action against Warner Bros. and Behaviour Interactive, which you can find below:

“Bethesda Softworks has today filed a complaint in U.S. District Court against Behaviour Interactive and Warner Bros. for copyright infringement, breach of contract, and misappropriation of its intellectual property. The case arises from Behaviour’s development of a ‘Westworld’ mobile game for Warner Bros. Behaviour had previously worked with Bethesda to develop Bethesda’s hit game, ‘Fallout Shelter,’ and under that contract, Bethesda alone owned all resulting intellectual property, including the game’s copyrighted code. Behaviour illegally used the same copyrighted source code from ‘Fallout Shelter’ to develop ‘Westworld,’ and copied Fallout Shelter’s game design, art, animations, gameplay features, and other elements. As a result of Behaviour and Warner Bros’ unlawful conduct, ‘Westworld’ is a blatant ripoff of ‘Fallout Shelter’ with largely superficial, cosmetic changes. Bethesda will vigorously protect its legal rights in the valuable intellectual properties it owns, and take legal action whenever those rights are being infringed.”

Wow are they actually stupid? That would be a multi-million dollar fine and they do it for a shitty mobile game

SagePosted:

Kagura Thought they looked really similar, even though I would prefer they not take it down since I'm kinda enjoying westworld at the moment.
