Microsoft’s new Xbox system might launch in 2020

4.3
According to possible leaks, Microsoft’s current plan is to release a next-gen Xbox code-named “Scarlett” within two years.

Microsoft’s E3 game was strong this year, but it also highlighted a key point: the publisher is probably gearing up for the next generation of consoles. In fact, it’s possible we’ll be looking at an entire family of Xbox hardware, if possible leaks can be believed.

According to a source speaking with tech website Thurrott, Microsoft is working on a next-gen Xbox system with a 2020 release date. What’s more, this source included documents with various other details – notably that the project is code-named “Scarlett” and refers to an entire family of Microsoft devices.

If these documents are accurate – and assuming Microsoft doesn’t change its plans – the publisher plans to aggressively launch multiple hardware items over the next two years, culminating in a next-gen games console. Presumably these devices would all share key features, much like how certain games are compatible across PC and Xbox One platforms.

As Thurrott notes, this date is quite close to last year’s Xbox One X launch, but it makes a certain degree of sense. Microsoft has successfully acquired an entire stable of third-party gaming studios, which gives it room to focus on first-party hardware development.

Obviously, the information isn’t verified, so take everything with a grain of salt. All the same, if these leaks were bogus? It’s likely that Microsoft is still following this general timeline.

Quite a long time still. But it doesnt matter cos by the time the whole xbox one will be like the xbox 360 and everyone will need/want an upgrade.

ItzSaxbyyy well i am 100% not buying a new games console for atleast another 4 or 5 years, its not been out long enough yet. Would rather sell it all and focus entirely on pc gaming than keep buying a new console that cant compete with a pc

Its crazy how they have to come up with new consoles when pc all you have to really do is upgrade the graphics card lol

I think that they might be releasing everything a bit fast honestly. Didnt the xbox one s just have its kinda debut late last year? People really didnt need that even though its stronger and faster than the normal xbox one it still plays the same games and everything so i doubt people in the end would buy one if they already own an xbox one.

Very excited to see what Microsoft has in store for the future. I've always been saying the earliest I'd by a new console is 2020 so that's good news

I like the codename that's for sure. I think if they'd release multiple "consoles" at one time they should all be able to play with each other.
