H1Z1: PS4 Pro gets frame-rate, resolution advantage

3.9
PlayStation 4 Pro owners will see an immediate benefit of going with the more powerful console in H1Z1, according to new analysis.

Multiplayer games rarely target 60fps on consoles. Fortnite and Call of Duty are exceptions, but H1Z1 wants in on the 60fps action.

The game is targeting 60fps on both the standard PS4, as well as PS4 Pro, but it sounds like 60fps is much more likely on the more powerful console, giving PS4 Pro owners an advantage.

Digital Foundry‘s recent examination of the beta reveals that H1Z1 runs at 1080p on PS4 Pro, compared to 1696×954 on base PS4. In fact, the game doesn’t upscale to 4K or higher resolutions, relying instead on the console’s built-in scalar.

Things get interesting when you look at the frame-rate, though. The standard PS4’s frame-rate sits somewhere between 40 and 50 fps, whereas PS4 Pro adheres much more closely to the 60fps target, averaging in 50s or above.

The game’s presentation leaves a lot to be desired, with the report noting the absence of a good anti-aliasing solution, average textures, and poor shading. But that’s likely how the game manages to get higher frame-rates on consoles, so the trade-off can be worth it.

Outside of the resolution and frame-rate differences, the rest of the game’s visuals are identical across the board, though the report mentions a curious case of greatly improved skybox rendering on PS4 Pro compared to base.

Some of this could change as H1Z1 graduates from beta, of course, but what we have today is still pretty decent, mostly thanks to the game’s frame-rate.

Lmao whoever wrote this is obviously on the PC bandwagon. There are tons of MP games that target 60 fps on consoles. Gears of War, Forza 5, 6, 7, Halo 5 and Halo Anniversary, all CoDs, all Battlefields, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Smite, Paladins, Rocket League, Warframe, Neverwinter, Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2, Fifa, NBA games, Roblox, Overwatch and the list goes on and on.

And this isn't even including the X1X modes that offer 4k30 or 1080p60

Dumb article written by someone who doesn't keep up with consoles and thinks 60 fps is a revolutionary idea for H1Z1 to bring to PS4.

Rauben Technically Pay 2 win cant say im a fan even if I can afford it ...

Not really play to win man picture quality doesnt really give an unfair advantage unless it is extreme and in this case its really not.

OP: Pretty neat but dont think it is the difference of getting a PS4 or a PS4 pro.

Frames does tho... and Resolution can be an advantage in some respects also.
Would like to see this come to the Xbox One but somethings telling me it wont happen.
