Fortnite is Shelling Out $100,000,000 in its Upcoming Competitive Scene

3.8
Are you looking to be a bit more rewarded for your epic Fortnite skills outside the V-Bucks offered for Solo Showdown? Good news is coming your way, because developer Epic Games revealed that the upcoming competitive scene for Fortnite will introduce a staggering $100,000,000 prize pool.

Yes, you read that right. $100,000,000. According to Epic Games’ blog post, this is their way of showing Fortnite is entering the eSports scene in a big way:

We’re getting behind competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different – we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.

Only a couple days ago we heard from the Epic Games community managers that we would soon start hearing more from the team about the eSports scene. And while many avid fans are looking forward to the E3 Celebrity Pro-Am Fortnite competition, others are looking to get in on the action themselves.

Although that number is staggering for a newcomer to the eSport scene, it is relatively unsurprising that Epic Games has that much money to throw around for Fortnite. The game has been consistently breaking records left and right for streaming platforms, most notoriously when artist Drake came on for an extended play session. In fact, most of Epic Games staff is currently dedicating their time to working on the massively popular Battle Royale game.

Not only that, but there has been unprecedented growth and crossovers. Earlier this month we saw Marvel take on an Avengers: Infinity War even in Fortnite where players could take on the role of Thanos. On top of that, colleges have started incorporating Fortnite eSport scholarships starting at $4,000 — though who knows how that may jump up following this announcement.

Fortnite is available immediately as a free-to-play game for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and iOS devices, with Android coming later this summer.

Maze A developer shoveling money into competitive gaming is one of the best marketing strategies around right now. This is an insane amount of money, but it's all to make fortnite even bigger.

It will drain the "pros" from other games its a smart move

It already has! I've noticed so many people I follow change their twitter bios from either "halo pro" or "cod pro" to "halo pro and fortnite BR player" and "cod pro and fortnite BR player".

This is why Epic games are in the driving seat at the moment, they give the community on what they ask for.

Just goes to show how much money they make and plan on making - I also imagine this will make other devs considering putting more money into comp such as in future COD's.

I don't understand how competitive Fortnite would even be fun to watch. I feel like BR games are horrible Esports. There is to much RNG and its just a giant cluster*uck to try to observe all the fights
