Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is next year’s game – reports

3.7
According to a couple of reports online, Call of Duty 2019 is Modern Warfare 4.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is Infinity Ward’s current project, due for release in 2019. According to Gaming Intel and Charlie Intel reports, the upcoming game will feature a traditional single-player campaign as well as multiplayer and Zombies.

Infinity War is also said to be in early talks about implementing a battle royale mode, which, if true, would hardly be a surprise considering the colossal the success of battle royale games and the fact this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has one.

The timing of this is certainly interesting. Just a day ago, one Reddit user shared a round-up of several former Respawn Entertainment developers who recently went back to Infinity Ward.

Respawn Entertainment was started by several of the original Infinity Ward members, many of whom left during the development of Modern Warfare 3. Geoffrey Smith, Joel Emslie, John Mundy, Joshua Dunnam, Mark Grigsby, Ranon Sarono, Dom McCarthy, and Madison Cromwell have all returned.

Though most of these names may not be familiar to casual players, those who followed the early days of Respawn know that a lot of these developers had a major part in the creation of Titanfall, not to mention classic Call of Duty games up to and including Modern Warfare 2.

It’s certainly interesting that so many Respawn leads would return to their former home now. Though we can only speculate, EA’s recent acquisition of Respawn may have something to do with their decision.

At the time, EA confirmed that Respawn is working on “a new title in the Titanfall franchise”, alongside the studio’s Star Wars VR projects.

As for Modern Warfare 4, it makes sense that Infinity Ward’s next project would be less risky than the studio’s two previous games. Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Infinite Warfare were both innovative in their own right, but were are sadly the two most poorly received games in the franchise by the Call of Duty community – particularly in multiplayer.

Activision won’t officially announce the next Call of Duty until near the end of the first quarter of 2019, though the publisher could hint at some of its characteristics in an earnings call before that time.

SR20DET *SPOILER (But if you haven't played any of the MW games, why?!)* But isn't only Price alive now? Would the story carry on after MW3? Either way I hope it's true and it actually comes with a campaign.

There was this stupidly outlandish rumour/bullshit going on when MW3 came out, which apparently had a Treyarch dev tweeting to one of the Infinity Ward devs, which got a reply back from a dev with something along the lines of *cell phone call* "Did you have fun killing me Price?" *phone hangs up* I can not for the life of me find that tweet, but that would be a justified twist because Makarov did arguably look and sound different from MW2, plus it wouldn't be out there for him to not have a double. Again, this was just stuff circulating around MW3 lobbies, YouTube comments and the internet in general, so I doubt it's true.

On top of that, Sgt Foley and his squad is still out there. Captain MacMillan wasn't in TF141 as far as I remember, but he was with Price in the events of CoD 4's flashbacks and even helped Price out during MW3, so he could play some sort of role too.

Oooh, Now that you mentioned Captain MacMillan, I'd love a campaign about Price and MacMillan before CoD4.

Well now we know what MW2 Remastered is chained to. All the MW's where great imo, but i really doubt COD has what it takes to make another classic..

I would be pretty happy with just a normal Modern Warfare but they will probably try to 'innovate' and end up screwing the game up. Hope they don't though and they come out with something decent.

Not sure how i feel about this tbh. Would have to be just like the old one's if they took stuff from mw3 & mw2 it may get me interested.

Hopefully (if this isn't true) the keep in the track they left off after MW3 because Ghosts was trash. Also hope to see what's next on Ghosts campaign.
