Sea of Thieves “fastest-selling first-party new IP” of this generation

Sea of Thieves passed one million players on launch day, and the game now has two million players.

This makes it the “fastest-selling first-party new IP” of this generation, according to Microsoft. It’s worth noting “fastest selling IP” does not include Game Pass, according to Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg.

The game is also the “best-selling first-party title” on Windows 10, per the announcement. It has been streamed by more than 100,000 players resulting in over 10 million hours watched in the last week.

Microsoft also noted half a million “new Xbox Live friendships” were formed and 400,000 players joined a Xbox Club to find players to join in Sea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves also topped the UK charts during launch week.

The game didn’t go off without a hitch as it has been plagued with various bugs, as well as server and connection issues since release on March 20.

Sea of Thieves went offline yesterday to fix problems with missing items and a new game client was released. In the process, the team had to temporarily disable achievements in order for the services to cope.

Microsoft and Rare said the Sea of Thieves team is “working hard” to fix player-impacting issues.

SR20DET I'm still yet to buy it as it looks really repetitive.

It's a great game but lacks content. It needs more story, more customization, better quest lines. And give players a way to break out of the cells!

Glad I only spent $10 through the game pass to play as opposed to spending $60. Paying $60 for a work in progress is annoying to me. Cross Platform is cool and all until you get the PC world cheating like crazy and you come across one and you're on console and you stand no chance at all lol.

Hackers already, no fun unless you're with friends, game pass problems, the list goes on. This game was an amazing idea, and I could see why the hype was so real, but it's such a disappointment. The game sold so well but they just couldn't get it right, something that seems a little too common nowadays.
