How to download PUBG Mobile outside of Canada

3.9
After it was released in China in February, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile is coming to the West. Currently, a localised beta of the game is only available on Android in Canada. But if you just can’t wait, here’s how to download and play PUBG Mobile anywhere on both iOS and Android.

This version of PUBG – called PUBG: Exhilarating Battlefield – was developed specifically for mobile by the Chinese Company Tencent’s Lightspeed & Quantum Studio, so it’s not exactly the same as the PC version by the original team. In fact, Tencent even made another PUBG game called Army Attack with a different studio, but Exhilarating Battlefield is closest to the PUBG you know and love, so we’ll focus on getting that.

How to download PUBG Mobile and play Exhilarating Battlefield on iOS and Android anywhere in the World:

On Android (Canadian):

  • Turn off your location settings
  • Sign into your Google Payments account and remove any default payment methods
  • Click the Settings icon in the top corner, then click Edit next to the Home Address listed and change it to Canada.
  • Open the Play Store and start a download
  • Click until you get to the Accept and Buy screen
  • Close the Play Store, Force Stop and then clear all data from the Google Play Store
  • Open the Play Store again
  • Search for PUBG and download it

On Android (Chinese):

  • Download the TapTap app from their website
  • Open TapTap and search for PUBG, then download it

On iOS:

  • Back-up your iCloud data, photos, contacts and safari data, log out of your Apple account
  • Try to sign back in, and create a new Apple ID with a real email address you have access to
  • With the account created, go to the App Store and when prompted to “complete your Apple ID” select China as your region
  • Complete the sign up by skipping adding payment details and entering something as your address
  • Go back to the App Store and search for PUBG or PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, then download the game with the dark thumbnail background
  • Load up the game and tap on the orange/yellow button on the left, then keep tapping the orange/yellow buttons to play

Downloading PUBG Mobile outside of Canada on Android in English:

The localised version of PUBG mobile is the most complicated to get and is only available on Android, but has the advantage of being in English.

To get started, you need to sign into your Google Payments account, remove any payment information you have saved, and click the Settings icon.

Next, you have to click to edit your “Home Address” listed and change it to match the store you want to gain access to – in this case, Canada. If you want to be thorough, you can change your billing and delivery addresses too.

Open up the Play Store and start downloading something free. Continue with a download until you get to the Accept and Buy screen. Then you have to close the Play Store, force stop and then clear the Google Play Store’s application data. You do this by going to Settings, then Apps, then Google Play Store, then Force Stop, and finally Clear Data. Alternatively you can clear your browser cache.

When you open the Play Store again, you should see the Play Store that lines up with where you changed your address to. Search for the PUBG application and download it.

Downloading PUBG mobile in the rest of the world on Android in Chinese:

This is much easier to do than messing with your payment and location settings – the only downside is the game is all in Chinese. It’s not too difficult to get to grips with, you just need to hit the orange/yellow buttons until you jump into a game, and you should be familiar with the interface from the PC version.

All you have to do here is download a third-party app – TapTap – which functions like a Chinese alternative to the Google Play Store. You can download and install it directly to your phone from their website.

When you’ve installed the app, just open it and search for PUBG. Exhilarating Battle is the one with the darker thumbnail background. You can now download and install the game.

Before you play though, turn off your phone’s location settings otherwise the game won’t open.

Once you’ve loaded up PUGB, press the orange/yellow button on the left at the start screen. If this button doesn’t show up for you, then you’ll have to create a QQ account. This is much easier to do if you go back to the app store and search for QQ International so you can create the account in English. Once that’s completed, you can come back to PUBG, click the blue QQ button on the right and enter the account number and password you were given when you made the QQ account.

Download and play PUBG mobile on iOS:

Right now the only way to play PUGB on iOS is in Chinese. And to make things harder, there’s no third-party app to speed things up.

What you need to do is create a new Chinese Apple ID. To start this process, back-up your iCloud data, photos, contacts and any safari data you need, and log out of your Apple account.

You do this by going into settings on your Apple device and clicking where your name is, then scrolling down and logging out. Be warned, this will remove your iCloud photo library as well as other data from the device, so make sure you have copies of your your important photos and data.

Seriously, don’t lose all of your photos by accident. Copy them over to somewhere safe before you try this.

Next you need to try to sign back in, and when it asks for your details, tap “Create new Apple ID”. This needs to be done with a real email that you have access to, but is different from your main account.

Follow the steps to create your ID, remembering that you want to set your region to China. When everything is set up and verified, head over to the App Store and “Complete your Apple ID”. This is where you have to be sure to set China as your region.

Skip adding payment details, since the app is free-to-play. You may have to enter something as your Chinese address, so get something from a public landmark on Google Maps or an online address generator.

Now your Chinese account is set up, you can go to the App Store and search for PUBG or PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Again, Exhilarating Battlefield is the one with the black thumbnail background.

When you’ve got the game installed and loaded, just tap on the orange/yellow button on the left, click on the box below your character’s feet to enter a name, then keep tapping the orange/yellow buttons to play.

With how bad the frame rate drops are on Xbox, I won't be downloading this game on mobile anytime soon, if not, ever. The game for me is unplayable.

Now look, I'm not bashing anyone or anything like that but if you're honestly willing to go through all those steps to play this game which is probably just going to stress you out? Idk what to say :)

This seems like a lot of steps just to get one game!
