Konami Is Charging Real Money For 'Metal Gear Survive' Save Slots

4
There have been many opportunities to slate Konami over the last couple of years following the publisher’s fallout with Hideo Kojima. If you were hoping to push past that and approach Metal Gear Survive with an open mind, then I have bad news for you, because it seems that Konami’s greed knows no bounds, as it will cost you $10 just to unlock a second save slot in the game.

Metal Gear Survive may have ended up being better than expected gameplay wise, but there is still plenty of microtransaction foolery going on. Konami is hoping to continuously make money on the game by selling SV coins, an in-game currency that is not earnable through gameplay. You start the game out with just one save slot, and to unlock another one, you’ll need to spend 1000 SV coins.

Here is a breakdown of how much SV coins cost:

100 SV coins – $0.99
550 SV coins – $4.99
1150 SV coins – $9.99
3500 SV coins – $29.99
6000 SV coins – $49.99

So in short, it will cost you $9.99 just to get access to another save file. Alternatively, you could delete your first and only save if you want to start again, but that doesn’t necessarily excuse the idea of charging for save slots in the first place.

Let’s not forget that this isn’t a free to play game either, it costs $40 in the US and £34.99 here in the UK. Oddly enough though, most of the Steam reviews on the game are currently positive, but if many more crazy microtransaction shenanigans come to light, then I imagine that will start to change.

This should've been titled "How to go bankrupt as a game developer" - charging for a save slot? Really?

I really hope this isn't true. Anything like this is just pitiful. Might as well charge per level of the campaign or per match in multiplayer while we're at it!

That's really considerate to charge $10 for a save file... Or just give it to people the normal way. I mean even ocarina of time had 3 save files...

of course you cant earn saved slots by gameplay. And really, charging to have another game file....

Yup. 1000SV for a save slot, too lazy to check.. lol
A save slot in MG:S would be broken in terms of how the game is, you could easily make a new save and gather materials and pretty much make WHATEVER you want. It would just remove the "survival" aspect of the game because of how easy it would be to obtain and said material.
I have only one slot and I don't plan on making a new character any time soon because I find the game challenging enough with one character and having to find materials.

Wow. That's why this game is failing already. How pathetic.
