Sony Bans PSN Account 8 Years After Creation Due To Username Violation

3.7
Sony has been rather strict with the username violations that can occur on their PlayStation Network service however things can change pretty quickly so it is possible that an account name that was possible on the PS3 is outright banned on the PS4. This has now led to an unfair ban for one such user who created his PSN account 8 years ago and was banned by Sony just recently.

Reddit user tiago28peixoto created this PSN username when he was only 12 and he admits that it was a stupid username, however he was too young to realize it back then. He recounts his experience in a thread on reddit.

This morning I received an e-mail from PlayStation informing me that my account was permanently banned due to violations of the PlayStation Network Terms. Of course they didn’t bother to inform me in the e-mail why exactly I was banned so I had to call PlayStation Support. In that call they told me that my account I was banned for life because my online ID violates the Code of Conduct. My online ID is (was) KingMADAFAKA. I admit that it is a stupid username, but I created when I was only 12. I asked them if there was a way to change the username in order not to loose every game that I had on my account (my FIFA account was amazing, I had a really good Ultimate Team) and all the money that I invested in the account, but they said that I can not change the online ID, therefore my account is banned for life and I have to create a new one from scratch.

The issue with the name aside, it is still a backwards move that Sony has yet to allow username change for PlayStation Network. If you have made a username when you were young and consider it stupid or offensive, you will remain stuck with it until Sony can decide it is time to implement username change. Microsoft offers username change and the same is the case for Nintendo, however they are still restricted by a certain time limit compared to basically nothing from Sony.

8 years is a bit extreme, but if it was still being used then I can see their point. Rules are rules no matter how long it takes em to action them.

KeepPounding xbox banned my account for name violation to so xbox is gay

Ive only been banned for negativity against other players. Usually they go hard on those who have bad names and are against the guidelines.

I remember when I was 14 and on Xbox 360 and I had the GT 'ViagraOverUse' some how it was accepted. Fortunately, my friends list (who I spammed on the regular) reported my GT as inappropriate and it finally worked. Xbox informed me I had to change my GT immediately but free of charge. Sony should be able to offer the same by now, surely?
On a side note the name always got a giggle when in waiting lobbies on Gears of War especially when my squeeky voice would pipe up lol.

Sucks he's going to lose his account and all the games he's purchased but I dont see how he thought he was going to get away with a name like that (somehow lasted 8 years). Stupid ass Sony for not discovering it, they should have given something in return or like people said, a reset on the account.

Mario350 and this is why you use a good name and not a stupid name i admit that my name is stupid but hey dont try to get passed a filter then again faka could also mean faker in kid talk, well i met someone called suck-my-rod and b*tch-smile or something yet they dont get banned lol, plus this is why you dont buy games digitally so you can have all your games still, as for the reason he was banned i highly doubt its his name like i said i met people with much worst and more offensive names than that, so he must of done something else to warrant the ban

Yeah, he should have just been reset, cuz now his gonna lose all his games.

GR33NV3N0M another example of how Sony really isnt "for the players" as they claim

its really not hard to be able to change a username, and im 100000% sure there is a way they could do it in the backend they have, if they cant change a simple data entry on a userlist database i wonder how they run a company.

Exactly. At this point Microsoft so much better in terms of player support and player choice.
