Outbreak, the upcoming co-op event for Rainbow Six Siege, will see operators fighting mutated monsters.
Ubisoft never previously said what kid of threat we’ll be going up against when Rainbow Six Siege’s Outbreak event rolls around in March, but the developer has now revealed a lot of details.
Though many expected the enemies to simply be zombies, a recent blog post confirmed they’re in fact monsters. There are five different types, or what Siege calls “profiles”. A team of three operators will go into the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico to neutralise the threat.
The first and most basic of the monsters are the Grunts. These make up the majority of the enemies you’ll come across. When they detect enemies, they get a defence boost by armouring up their bodies, which makes them resistant to bullets.
The Breachers are described as proximity bombs. These agile monsters launch themselves and blow holes in walls. The Rooters are less common. As the name might suggest, these enemies send out spikes to immobilise their targets.
Then there are the Smashers, a heavy-type monster with a thick hide who can tear down walls and takes little damage from bullets.
At the top of the food chain we have the Apex, which commands units of smaller enemies and sends them your way. The Apex can hurl projectiles, which blind their enemies. Only Finka, and Doc can counter the effect of these projectiles.
Ubisoft said that the different enemy types will combine their abilities in order to take down their opponents. Though we still don’t have actual gameplay, we did get a new chapter in Ash’s briefing that digs a little deeper.
Outbreak runs from March 3 to April 6. This is also when the first DLC in 2018 – Operation Chimera – will go live, bringing two new operators.
