Call of Duty: WWII, Crash Bandicoot Set Big Records For PlayStation

3.8
Activision recently held its earnings call for the fourth quarter of 2017, and it had plenty to say about its top franchises, including Call of Duty and Crash Bandicoot. But there’s one number in particular that may be of interest for those of you that picked up last year’s release of Call of Duty: WWII.

The company reported during the call that Sledgehammer Games’ latest release had no trouble setting sales records. Along with becoming the top-grossing console game of the year (even with Grand Theft Auto V still in the hunt), the game also managed to set a record as the biggest day-one digital release ever on PlayStation platforms – that’s even surpassing previously released games in the series, like Call of Duty: WWII.

That stat is part of an overall trend for the Call of Duty franchise, as it’s managed to be the number one franchise globally for eight of the last nine years. The company didn’t disclose which year that was off, but Infinite Warfare from 2016 might be a safe bet.

In addition, the company also boasted about Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy being the number one best-selling remastered collection in PlayStation 4 history. Granted, this was before the release of the stellar Shadow of the Colossus remake, which is doing pretty well for Sony thus far, so that might be an interesting fight to see down the road.

Even with its recent troubles, Destiny 2 also saw some good news, as it was reportedly the second highest grossing console game in North America for the year, and also had the largest PC launch in Activision history based on units. Activision also noted that it has a higher attach rate than the original Destiny.

So where does the year go from here for the company? It’s got more to say, we’re sure, but a new Call of Duty looks imminent, and we’re probably not too far off from seeing the return of Crash Bandicoot to some capacity, either with a new game or ports of N. Sane Trilogy. (Or maybe both!)

For now, though, fans can enjoy Call of Duty: WWII, which is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy is available now for PlayStation 4.

Ninja I hate WW2 so much, it's so bad. Probably because of sledgehammer. But I do get why crash made it though, incredible game. Loved it from when I was young & still do.

I don't think it's bad as such, but it's a very boring game after a while

It's terrible, bad load-in times, XP/levelling is long. Hit boxes are horrendous. Overall imo it's horrebdius. But each to their own.

Tom All the hate Call of Duty gets for being too repetitive, kidish, and boring, but we still see the games at the top of sales and number one franchise. Surprised to see Bandicoot to hit the top with best-selling remastered collection though. Probably because we dont see much remastered games I guess.

Bandicoot is an amazing game. I can see why its at the top. I do not see how WW2 is up there because that is a horrible game in my opinion. Repetitive to the max.

Izuku So many people were hyped for WWII, doesn't surprise me that it set this record, I got crash remastered when it first released but haven't really played it much recently

I was hyped for it when it first came out because of boots on the ground. But on release to only drop with limited maps and 3 war maps... was horrible. The game is just bad IMO.

WW2 is only popular since it went back to boots on the ground. The Call of Duty fans were asking for this for so long and they finally did so its now a top seller.

Very true. Next boots on the ground call of duty is going to sell of course cause thats just what call of duty does. I do not think the next one will sell as much as WW2 did though

What, the best call of duty developer, Treyarch, will for sure outsell WW2. Treyarch games are always hyped and the community loves them. Knowing they'll be going to boots on the ground just makes it even better.

Ehhhhh. I see it as the community already got their boots on the ground hype. They will not be AS MUCH hype around the next one as there was with WW2. I am not saying it wont sell but it will not sell as fast and as much as WW2

I like the fact everyone has this talk-talk behaviour over CoD but when the game does big sales people shut up then. It's almost like it's a shock to their system they cant get over the fact a game is doing so well. I'm shocked that Crash Bandicoot is doing extremely well.

Crash is one of my all time fav games.

Glad to see it hit a record again
