Star Wars Battlefront 2 Underperformed Due to Loot Box Controversy

Stock reports over the past few months, along with second-hand reports from consumers, painted a picture of Electronic Arts’ Star Wars Battlefront 2 underperforming in sales thanks to the explosive loot box controversy surrounding it. Prior its Q3 2018 financial report, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed that sales were officially affected.

Jorgensen told The Wall Street Journal (via Sarah E. Needleman on Twitter) that the sequel sold 9 million units instead of the originally estimated 10 million. This is compared to Star Wars Battlefront which managed to sell 14 million units by March 31st 2016. EA is expecting to have 1 million to 3 million additional units shifted before the current fiscal year ends.

Furthermore, the sequel sold 37 percent of its copies digitally compared to 32 percent for the original. EA also confirmed in its financial report that Bioware’s Anthem has been delayed to early 2019 though CFO Blake Jorgensen noted that “It’s not a delay”. Which is a contradiction to the entire process of delaying it but that’s a separate issue.

Quite a few games have been ridiculed about loot boxes, I personally think that as long as they're just cosmetical purely it's perfevtly fine like Fortnite. However, the moment they introduce unbalanced and overpowered weapons it becomes a major issue. Don't get me wrong, it won't break the game but it will certainly anger players.

Same as Monster Hunter World, I refunded this after an hour of playing it. game is exactly like the first one but just new maps, didnt want to spend my money on a DLC that costs $79.99

ps EA is just all about that money, and all about them loot boxes. I have not tried the Battlefront 2 game, and for this reason, I don't plan on trying it at all.

Ancestor From all the reviews I read, I just couldn't find myself buying this game.

Silky This was actually the main reasoning behind not getting the game and I kinda regret not getting it on release as it does seem like a good game gameplay wise.

The game is truly amazing, and if you are holding back for the sake of the game having loot crates I would hope you didn't get WW2 as that game has the identical loot box system as this game does. EA has removed PAID FOR loot crates meaning no one can buy them to further progress them self faster than anyone else. Still normal progression and the game has crazy good gameplay, I highly recommend trying it out for yourself.

The game is not amazing. By any standards. I lost interest within 2 hours of playing. That to me is not how an amazing game should be.
