Fortnite Adding Autorun Toggle After Request from Disabled Fan

4.3
Yesterday, a disabled, one-handed fan going by the nickname RAOBJSheff started a thread on the Fortnite Battle Royale subreddit about the addition of autorun, where he described how he plays the game with one hand.

“I lack the subtle movements a thumb can provide on the left stick so have to press it hard against my cheek bone to play. The new autorun feature means I constantly run and now fall out of buildings, off walls and die way more than normal.”

We hear that he loves the addition, but he’d also like the option to disable it. He actually plays with three other players that were born without or have lost a hand and because of the new autorun feature, they cannot play the game properly.

Playing a competitive multiplayer game like Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode with such a disadvantage as missing a hand and still finding a way to compete is quite a feat, and one worthy of praise. Apparently, Epic Games agreed, answering a mere two hours after he posted.

“You’re amazing! We’ll add an option to turn it off. Thank you for your support.”

Short, simple, to the point. They saw a dedicated fan in need and immediately offered to help. Sure, it’s probably not that hard to program a toggle into the game, but the fact that they responded so positively and without the usual flourish of typical PR talk is very refreshing.

The quick response was so well-received that the thread spilled into /r/all (which means even those not subscribed to the subreddit could see it on the Reddit homepage) and a few people who had never heard of Fornite before were considering buying it simply due to this interaction.

Fornite is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The latest update fixes a number of bugs and adds a new item called the Chug Jug.

why do they have to describe the fan, like just say a fan rather than a disabled fan. Glad to see this though since its tiring running all the time, would be nice to just press a button and let the game do the work

Wow, this is absolutely amazing. It is awesome when big game developers listen to their fans and even reach out to those in need such as this. Good for them!

I love the auto run feature on PUBG, it makes running so much easier. Especially when you have to go across the map!

I saw this on the front page of the Fornite reddit and was quite amazed at the feedback it got, especially from Epic themselves - maybe some other gaming companies can learn a thing or two about customer service.
