Steam Big Picture mode is getting a new interface – report

The anticipated, and very much mysterious, Steam UI update we’ve been hearing about will also refresh Big Picture mode.

The Steam UI overhaul, which Valve never officially announced but was discussed as recently as earlier this month, is not the only thing in the works at Valve.

Speaking at a recent developer event in Barcelona, Valve talked about a couple of other features it’s also working on. The first is an upgrade to Steam’s Big Picture mode.

Big Picture is a UI designed specifically to make the Steam UI easier to navigate with with controllers, for people who prefer to play PC games on a big screen.

It never really received any meaningful changes since it first launched back in 2012, however, so it’s about time. Toni Domínguez, one of the developers who attended the event, revealed on Twitter (via PCGamesN) that Valve is also working on a calendar for games.

Through it, developers will be able to schedule in-game events like double XP weekends, and mark future patch release dates, developer livestreams and so on. Finally, Domínguez added that Valve is working on a “better implementation for Steam Reviews,” though it’s not clear how this will manifest itself for Steam users.

Never been a fan of big picture and so I stick to the normal layout and will continue to do so.

I've tried big picture mode and it's very bland and boring. Glad they're updating and improving on it.

The interface looks pretty sweet already

It is good to see them improving on the interface. You can never make anything look too good. ;D
