Call Of Duty: WWII Tops Ten Million Copies Sold

4.7
As expected, Activision’s return to World War II with its Call of Duty franchise turned out to be a very successful move.

According to numbers reported by VGChartz, Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: WWII has managed to clear ten million copies sold since its initial release back in November. The game sold just over two million units for the week, reaching approximately 10.87 million copies sold in its lifetime. That’s not too shabby, especially considering all the effort that went into bringing the series back to its roots.

The site reports that the PlayStation 4 version of the game sold the most copies, with 7.27 million units sold. That’s about 67 percent overall. Meanwhile, the Xbox One version cleared 3.48 million units sold, around 32 percent. Meanwhile, the PC version came up about dead last, with only 110,000 units sold for Windows PC – less than one percent.

Surprisingly, though, the game sold better overseas than it did here. 4.56 million units were sold in Europe (an estimated 42 percent), while 4.55 million units sold in the U.S. (also 42 percent). So it was a pretty close horse race. Japan also saw a few copies sold as well, around 290,000 (three percent).

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare sold approximately 12.62 million copies in its lifetime sales, so it’s safe to say that Call of Duty: WWII will eclipse that number pretty handily – especially with the downloadable content that’s coming out for the game. The Resistance, the first piece of DLC for WWII, will arrive on PlayStation 4 later this month, followed by a release on Xbox One and PC later on.

It seems that Sledgehammer Games’ gamble has paid off, and Call of Duty’s momentum is returning back to normal after a bumpy year with Infinite Warfare. Now it’s just a matter of seeing whether said momentum can keep up, as Treyarch will likely announce first details on the 2018 edition of Call of Duty very soon. We’ll keep you informed once any information is available.

Thats a huge number but it doesnt seem to have sold as much as the past cods in its current release time. Guess Call of Duty is just dying.

I very much liked the game. It was a classic feel to me, I hate I do not have the time to play it more often though.

I haven't bought a cod game since cod 3. Most of them are the same game just different scenery.

Mei This game was a bust, people hopping on the "we want boots on the ground" then its filled with campers, dull gameplay, terrible maps. Don't get me wrong, its a okay game, its the way the community plays, and how the maps promote camping. ive had tons of domination games where we we're double capping them, but still getting spawn trapped. Can't play SnD without that spectating glitch happening for 2 1/2 rounds.

The dlc maps are this games savior, they gotta do something about them, gustov cannon and uss texas are just so unbearable i gotta leave all the time because there's no maps in rotation at the moment.

Yes I do have to agree that people do not understand the flaws with the boots on the ground system, I understand Black Ops 3 and Infinite Warfare had their issues with their omnidirectional vertical movement system, However, that did create a very fast pace and almost impossible situation for campers which, as you can see, that's why it was getting so much hate by the same individuals that are camping inside of Call of duty WWII. It's kind of like when everyone played call of duty modern warfare remastered, It's either they never played it, and only heard about the legends which came from people who were just over nostalgic; Once everyone started playing the game almost everyone agreed the camping, grenades, spawn camping/lurching was unbearable. That being as it may, sadly at the end of the day we the players are the ones that can make or break a game by the mechanics of these games, it does not matter whether or not these mechanics are simple or complex, the community is what makes the game enjoyable and if the community is toxic then the game overall will be toxic as well. However, map design can assist in toxic player tactics, moreover, it can mask flaws in the spawn system; ergo, make it harder for toxic players to intentionally spawn camp/lerch.

It's an alright game. Zombies is fun. I'm not surprised by the 10 mil+.
