Xbox One Physical Sales Suffer 11.1% Year on Year Decline in UK

4.4
The Xbox One’s market position became more precarious in 2017 than it has ever been before- and while the launch of the Xbox One X might help it recover some momentum in the long run, for the bulk of the year, the console struggled to sell not just hardware, but worse, also software.

And this is reflected in the precarious decline of physical game sales for the platform in the UK- MCV UK is reporting that Xbox One software declined 11.1% year on year in the UK for physical sales- this is contrasted by a 6.6% increase for PS4 software, and the already reported on strong showing of Nintendo with Switch software.

Of course, it is important to remember that Microsoft has made attempts to move its users to its digital ecosystem via a variety of initiatives, including Play Anywhere, refunds, gifting, backward compatibility, sales, and Game Pass- for all we know, games actually sold more on Xbox this year when digital is accounted for. But as far as retail goes, at least, Xbox software is in decline- now to see if 2018 can reverse this trend.

I used to use disc games alot and i still do but most of my games are digital now anyways because likelyhood is if i get bored ive always got something to play ^_^

I wish they would fix these digital/physical game problems. No one wants to buy a disc just to have it take up as much space and the digital download.

As expected really, I find it annoying that there is no benefit to having a disk anymore as it still takes up the same space. Assuming this is to help performance though but the day 1 edition consoles haven't prepared for this.

I don't like digital copies myself i prefer disk copies. When i am done with most games and just completely bored of them i sell them off.

I think digital sales are a lot more convenient and cut out the middle man.

Digital is a big no for me... They charge silly prices and you can't sell it when you're done with it. Only good thing about digital is you can share games with a friend or partner

Although I prefer getting a disc copy of a game it's just much more covenient to buy a digital copy instead.

Digital is the new way to go. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the next console only had a drive to play movies.
