PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will only hit 30fps on Xbox One X

4.1
Last week, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds hopefules were excited to hear that Bluehole is targeting 60fps for the Xbox versions of PUBG, and that a dev build had already achieved that target.

Unfortunately it looks like it’s not going to happen for consumers – at least for a while. In an update issued on Twitter, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene said that the Xbox build of Battlegrounds will run at 30fps whether you’ve got a bog standard console or a fancy Xbox One X.

Although no reason was given for the backtrack, it’s worth noting that the previous comment came as part of an interview in which Greene said that the standard Xbox One build was up to about 30fps or 40 fps. Although the view has been challenged, conventional wisdom holds that a higher frame rate grants an advantage to players stuck at a lower one, so shipping the game with one set of players running it at 60fps and another at 30fps would have caused an outcry.

The good news is that Greene’s wording in the linked tweet makes it sound like Bluehole hasn’t given up on hitting 60fps on both console builds, so it can switch it on for everyone on Xbox in a post-release patch.

“We’re constantly refining the game and exploring options to increase FPS, but this early in dev, we’re unable to confirm more,” Greene wrote.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds arrives on Xbox One on December 12. Microsoft’s pretty pleased with itself over this console scoop.

The enormous PC userbase for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds would probably like to hear that Bluehole is making similar efforts for the notoriously resource-intensive shooter, too. We can but hope.

This is bullshit, the X is more than capable of 60 fps on this game. They already confirmed 60 fps cant go back on it now. If competiveness is going to be an issue on future games theres no point of the X.

Craig Chuckles internally...

Most powerful console ever lads...

PlayerIncompetent already said and I quote "Definitely on Xbox One X, 60FPS. On Xbox One, we're not sure. We may have to limit it at 30FPS, maybe, but the last time I saw it, it was running at about 30 to 40."

This is Microsoft stepping in so people on the OG Xbone dont whine and complain about having a lower frame rate.

honestly, I can't say im surprised the game is really poorly optimized, often falling below 60fps on good PC builds which is a real shame. If this game was forced 30fps on PC I wouldn't play it. thank god it won't ever be.

YA8 This happens on pc all the time get over it.

Yeah if you have lower end specs lol?

The X may be able to push a little more in the future. But 30fps is fine in my opinion.
