Call of Duty: WW2 takes fifth week at UK No. 1

4.5
Call of Duty: WW2 has taken the top spot in the UK sales charts for the fifth week in a row, according to sales-monitor GfK Chart-Track.

The latest iteration in Activision’s long-running FPS franchise has now equalled the record for the most successive number one weeks in 2017 – originally set by Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy earlier this year – beating out stern competition from EA and Ubisoft.

FIFA 18 took second place in an unchanged top five, rounded out by Gran Turismo Sport, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Assassin’s Creed: Origins respectively.

Following strong Nintendo Switch sales over Black Friday and Cyber Monday – with particularly good deals selling out in less than two minutes – Super Mario Odyssey rose two places to sixth, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe surging 11 places to eighth in the top entertainment software sales rankings.

Nintendo also saw the only new entry in this week’s top 40, with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 debuting at 19th – nine places higher than predecessor Xenoblade Chronicles X when it released for the Wii U back in 2015.

The story wasn’t quite so good for PlayStation VR, with PlayStation VR Worlds slipping 28 places to 39th after reaching 11th last week. Sony’s virtual reality headset was also red hot this Black Friday, but a lot of bundles threw VR Worlds in with the deal, possibly going some way to explaining its sharp decline in physical sales.
