Nintendo Switch Could Replicate Wii’s Success, Market Analysts Say

3.5
It’s a narrative that has become increasingly more prevalent over the last few months- as it has become clear that the Switch is exceedingly successful, and that it is selling to a sustainable market demographic, more and more analysts and market researchers have taken to saying the system could end up performing similarly to the Wii, which, at 101 million units sold worldwide, remains Nintendo’s most successful home console to date.

Now, another one has joined the chorus- NASDAQ reports that Morningstar expects Nintendo to ship a staggering 110 million units of the Switch worldwide by the time the product is discontinued. Their optimism is rooted in Nintendo’s apparent ability to actually meet demand for the console now, the expanded third party support the system is enjoying, and the possibility that more than one unit is bought per household, given that the Switch is expected to be treated as a handheld as much as a console.

Will it actually hit 100 million? Who knows? Right now, it is trending well, but Nintendo has been known to bungle surer things in the past than the Switch. They’ve managed to execute the Switch admirably thus far- but who knows how things play out in the coming years. It will be interesting to see, that’s for sure.

The Wii did so well because it came out at the perfect time with a price that was unbeatable. I don't think the Switch will replicate it. Might get close though.

Mario350 didnt it already surpass the wii and wii u?

I think they have only done about 10Mil so far, because of supply. They are still having demand issues, in some areas. I doubt anything other than a major console(PS/Xbox) would ever sell so many in less than a years time.

That would be interesting because the Wii did sell alot of units. It just depends what titles they get on there tbh and who they make the console for.
