PlayStation’s Jim Ryan On Xbox One X: Forget Specs, It’s How The Games Look

4.1
Sony had one hell of a showcase at the Paris Games Week event over the past few days, with a lot of titles that will utilize the PlayStation 4 Pro’s technology. That said, there are some questions on what the more powerful console is – that, or Microsoft’s Xbox One X, which arrives this Tuesday.

Both pack a lot of power, with the PS4 Pro packing 4.2 TFLOPS and the Xbox One X having around 6 TFLOPS. But do specs really matter? Playstation Global Sales Head Jim Ryan doesn’t seem to think so.

Speaking with the Telegraph, Ryan explained that it’s not really about what’s in the hardware, but rather how a game performs on it – possibly taking a jab at Xbox One X’s powerful set-up. “Specs are interesting, but that’s all they are: specifications,” he noted. “The proof is in how the games look – and which games they are. You saw last night (during the presentation), there was a great range of games – many of which are exclusive to our platform and you will only find on a PS4 Pro, that I think allow us to feel – as I said almost three times last night – that we remain the best place to play.”

Ryan also made it clear that hardware can be incredibly powerful, but it’s the games that matter at the end of the day. “Certainly for us it is one of the key differentiators, yes. Games like Uncharted 4, we just had Gran Turismo, a whole range of stuff from studios located in Japan and Europe – obviously Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games here in Europe – West Coast of America – we’ve spent a lot of time nurturing that network of studios, a lot of time over many, many years, and a lot of hard work, but we think now it’s a big asset for us.”

That’s an interesting statement. Xbox has its fair share of great exclusives, but Sony’s been keeping up with many offerings of its own. We’ll have to see how things fare this holiday season, when the Xbox One X arrives next week, and the PlayStation 4 Pro takes its part in forthcoming sales – including Black Friday.

Gotta love this comeback from him. At the end of the day, what really matters; who can give more power to the devs so that they are able to make their games better looking. This guy is silly for even trying to compare the two. "It looks better" (Nah Not really)

They are just comparing exclusives in this; so they have to look good. Because it is Sony.

Give the PS4 Pro to Devs who develop on both and they will tell you for sure which one works better.

Rui Yes he may be right, however it's not just how games look... quality is key but have quality with shocking FPS and stuttering or throttling or even blurriness, consoles now should be reaching 60fps at 1080p standard...

i agree anything under 60 just don't cut it at all anymore.

Jimmy seems a little insecure. We aren't talking overclocking the GPU, the One X almost has a full 2 more tflops than the PS4 Pro.
