Rockstar Reaffirms Commitment To Single Player Content

5
GTA 4 had some of the best single player focused expansions released as DLC that any game has ever gotten- arguably, the expansions were better than the main game itself. But when GTA5 came about, Rockstar never released any single player content for it. Instead, all focus shifted to GTA Online, and content and post launch support consisted of updates only for that mode.

This, coupled with the focus on the online component of Red Dead Redemption 2, back when it was announced, led many to fear the worst- that, like Valve before it, Rockstar, too, would slowly transition away from the kind of quality single player experiences they are known for, and slowly move to multiplayer games instead.

However, speaking to Game Informer, Rockstar director of design Imran Sarwar explained why GTA5 never actually got single player DLC, confirming that it was a victim of circumstance, and also reaffirming Rockstar’s commitment to single player experiences.

“No, it was not really a conscious decision, it’s just what happened,” Sarwar said. “With GTA5 the single-player game was absolutely massive and very, very complete. It was three games in one. The next-gen versions took a year of everyone’s time to get right, then the online component had a lot of potential but to come close to realizing that potential, also sucked up a lot of resources. And then there are other games – in particular Red Dead Redemption 2. The combination of these three factors means for this game, we did not feel single-player expansions were either possible or necessary.”

“We would love to do more single-player add-ons for games in the future,” Sarwar added. “As a company, we love single-player more than anything, and believe in it absolutely – for storytelling and a sense of immersion in a world, multiplayer games don’t rival single-player games.”

So, there you have it- Rockstar claims it is still committed to quality quality single player experiences. Now to see if it means it. Red Dead Redemption 2 launches on the PS4 and Xbox One next year.

Potion I would love for a spin off story like GTA IV's TBOGT, but at this point it is too late into the games lifespan. Ill just wait for the next game.

Exactly it would be nice but this game is too old and outdated now imo. Been waiting a few years for a new one.

Famous They care about money to much. A story DLC is needed and would be amazing.

How can they be about money? when they release free content for everyone...

- paid transactions don't count as they are practically boosters and not .necessary

the fact this was a bummer its just... weird how this all happend

I'm rather disappointed the Rockstar did not focus on releasing DLC content for Story mode like we've seen on games in the past.

It was almost expected to see that kind of content from Rockstar than any other game developer.

Micro-Transactions have ruined next-gen completely in my opinion.

Yeah a spinoff would be pretty awesome, but like you said it's too late for all that, I spent countless days of my life playing TBOGT.

Is there supposed to be the word 'quality' in there twice?

I never felt that this game really needed any single player content. If you took the time to 100% the game, you had 100's of hours of content on you hands. The game is already almost 5 years old. It has had three major releases (Xbox/ps3, Xbox/ps4. and PC). I would honestly be amazed if people really thought you would get single player content after all this time.

I don't think the amount of "content" that we saw in GTA Online would really have taken that much time, but I can their argument. I'm worried that Rockstar is going to start focusing on multiplayer for all of their future titles. This would really destroy RDR2 for me. Even though the MP for RDR1 wasn't as feature rich as GTA Online, it was still fun and I think it is how RDR2 should do their MP.

I would love some single player content. Download some mods to make it even better and do another playthrough would be awesome.
