Gears of War 4 October update resurrects a classic map

Gears of War 4‘s October update is going live October 23rd, and this marks the last time that new maps will be added to the game. Still, longtime fans of the franchise should be happy with what’s on offer.

The two new maps arriving this month are Fuel Depot and Lift Apex. Fuel Depot is a faithful recreation of the same map from the first Gears, featuring that mad dash for the longshots on either side of the map and, we’re assuming, another power weapon in the central warehouse.

Lift Apex is a variation on the original map that removes the expanding battlefield and moving elevator and replaces them with a new defensible position at the submarine bay and timed shutters that players can use as temporary cover.

Unfortunately, this update also marks the end of developer playlists and double XP events for season pass owners. In its place, however, are new Map Owned bonuses. This means players will gain an increase in XP and Credit earned any time you play Public Versus or Horde modes on maps that you own. That’s all 34 maps for season pass owners, as opposed to just 10 maps for base game players.

Along with the October update, fans will also be able to earn new characters and weapon skins when the Halloween event begins at the end of the month.

In addition, players who are planning on buying an Xbox One X when it’s released on November 7th can already download the “enhanced content,” which will be transferred over with the rest of the game once they change consoles. It should go without saying, but if you’re not planning on switching over to the Xbox One X, don’t download this content, as normal Xbox One player won’t benefit from it in any way and it will take up a decent chunk of your hard drive.

Gears of War 4 is available now on Xbox One and PC.

I am very glad that Fuel Depot is making its return however The Coalition keeps shoveling these garbage map variations like Apex Lift to its players is starting to make me mad. Shame that this is the last batch of maps for a while.

Will be fun to check out the new characters and skins for the Halloween event. Also the map Lift Apex seems like it would be a good time playing with the buds.
