Destiny 2 US Physical Sales Down By Over 50 Percent From Original

3.9
Physical sales for the first month of Bungie’s Destiny 2 in the United States are in and they’re fairly below expectations. According to the NPD which sourced sell-through data from three Wall Street analyst reports (as reported by CNBC), Destiny 2’s physical game sales have declined by over 50 percent in launch month compared to its predecessor.

The NPD Group actually noted that the drop in U.S. sales is similar to the 58 percent year-over-year drop that Destiny 2 had in its first week for the UK. Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson added to the NPD’s report by stating that, “The launch month of Destiny 2 was well short of the original iteration by a material amount.”

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter also noted that sales for the sequel were “underwhelming” and that the sales data from the NPD Group was 37 percent off from his initial forecast. Of course, it’s worth keeping mind that these only take the physical sales of the game into account and not the digital sales that Destiny has had a reputation of garnering. With the game releasing for PC via Battle.net on October 24th, there could very well be a huge surge in sales for this month.

Regardless, what are your thoughts on this sales drop in the physical space, at least for the United States? Let us know in the comments.

Digital is the way to go these days, why buy a disc when you can buy digital plus set your home console to a friends so you both play the game and can split the cost between yourselves.

TOXICPosted:

Everyone buys digital lol, so sales would be down lol

SagePosted:

It is the next gen consoles where buying the game disc is a lot of tasking than just buying it digital.

platyuiPosted:

The first one released on the last gen consoles so obviously more people bought the disk back then.

Eternity This isnt surprising at all. I think this will be the case with most games in the future, if it isnt already.

Digital sales are becoming more and more popular, and honestly is the way to go when buying new games. I havent bought a physical disk in over 2-3 years because its so much easier to buy games digitally

Me too.. mines its down to my disc tray being broke tho lol.
