Epic is suing Fortnite cheaters

4.1
After banning thousands of cheating accounts playing Fortnite, developer Epic Games is now taking it a step further by suing two alleged cheaters.

The surge in cheaters, as you might expect, came after Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode was released for free, but Epic is not messing around when it comes to rooting them out.

“To start, addressing cheaters in Fortnite is the highest priority across Epic Games,” the company said in a blog post.

“We are constantly working against both the cheaters themselves and the cheat providers. And it’s ongoing, we’re exploring every measure to ensure these cheaters are removed and stay removed from Fortnite Battle Royale and the Epic ecosystem.”

Banning isn’t the only thing being done, though, Epic is actually taking two cheaters to court. The developer filed complaints with a North Carolina federal court, according to information obtained by TorrentFreak. Mr. Boom, and Mr. Vraspir are the two cheaters in question.

Epic is accusing them of violating the game’s terms of service and EULA, as well as circumvention of technological measures. “The software that Defendant uses to cheat infringes Epic’s copyrights in the game and breaches the terms of the agreements to which Defendant agreed in order to have access to the game,” Epic said in the complaint.

TorrentFreak notes that the two cheaters are associated with a known website that sells these cheats, with one saying that creating cheats for Fortnite was a higher priority for the cheat maker.

The players in question face up to $150,000 in statutory damages for copyright infringement.

Nodus If they are breaking the ToS while doing these then Epic have all rights to sue them and not only hopefully it discourages cheating. Ruining other peoples enjoyments should never be used for money.

I can see the point in banning but people exploit games all the time. Suing someone for that kind of money is people who are money hungry. They already have a badass game thats breaking records left and right.

I wouldn't call defending something you put a lot of time and work into "money hungry".

They took the risk to do it, now they have to pay the consequences.

Decy Damn that amount of cash for cheating on a game... that's messed up.

It wasn't for cheating it was for creating the cheats and selling them.

Its still basically getting sued for cheating tho... Anyone can find a way to cheat on a game

Not anyone can, lol. These people are creating and selling these "cheats" on a massive scale and making loads of money. Who knows, they've probably made close to $150,000 already

I think that is taking it to far in my opinion

It'll probably prevent others wanting to make cheats, which isn't a bad thing tbh. but it sucks how much it's gonna cost
