PlayStation VR Gets a Hardware Update, New Model on the Way

4.1
PlayStation has announced that a new PS VR model is coming soon that’ll bring a slight hardware upgrade to those looking to dive into virtual reality.

The new piece of VR tech from PlayStation will be sold separately from the base model that some PS VR users might already have, but those who got in on the VR gaming earlier won’t be too left out by the upgrade. It won’t change the way that you play your VR games or provide a different experience from the base model, but it does offer some quality-of-life improvements that are necessary to keep the VR progress moving.

A description provided by the PlayStation Blog details how to differentiate between the different PS VR models also described some of the differences that the upgrade includes:

“The new version, model number CUH-ZVR2, features an updated design that enables the stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset and a slimmer, streamlined connection cable. There’s also an updated Processor Unit that supports HDR pass through, enabling users to enjoy HDR-compatible PS4 content on a TV without having to disconnect the Processor Unit in between the TV and the PS4 system. This function can be used only when the VR headset is turned off.”

If the slight changes to the PS VR headset interest you and you haven’t yet picked up the product, you can look for the new model sometime soon in North America. Details on the release date haven’t been revealed yet, but the blog post indicated that the info will be revealed at a later date. The pricing will remain the same as the current $399 retail cost, so you won’t have to pay any more for the improved connection cable and processor unit.

However, if you already own a PS VR headset and hope to take advantage of the changes, you’ll have to purchase the upgraded version yourself. The cables of the two models are different, so you won’t be able to swap out the processor units. All of your games will remain compatible with both models though, so there will be no interruption there.

Xbox Personally just never got into VR that much, not really the way I like to game.

It doesn't feel like gaming to me either.. its more of a simulation.

Have yet to use the VR, but purchasing the new model just for the updates is ridiculous.

I hate that if you already own a pair the only way to get the upgrade is to purchase a new one? Do what?
