Microsoft reportedly in talks to extend PUBG Xbox One exclusivity

4.1
At E3 2017, Microsoft announced that smash hit title PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will be making its way to the Xbox One later this year as a "console launch exclusive". Put simply, this means that the game - already available on PC - will most likely be a timed exclusive on the Xbox One, that will expand to other platforms later.

However, new reports now claim that Microsoft is in talks with the developer, Bluehole Inc., regarding an extension in this console exclusivity.

According to Bloomberg, console exclusivity usually lasts for three months, providing enough time to promote a console. However, with the meteoric rise in the popularity of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, it's no surprise that Microsoft is looking to extend this agreement.

If these talks succeed, the title could potentially be a console exclusive for the Xbox One until mid-2018, and even longer. This would mean that PlayStation 4 gamers would have to wait an even longer period of time than previously anticipated to get their hands on the title.

It is important to note that although Battlegrounds is expected to land on the Xbox One and the Xbox One X - with added enhancements - later this year, no firm release date has been announced. Meanwhile, the title has faced a massive surge in popularity, selling over 10 million copies on the PC, and setting the peak user record over a 24-hour period on Steam. Some rare in-game cosmetic items are even being sold for well over $1,000 on Steam.

Xbox I would like to see everyone play because it will help with overall sales for PUBG and if we can get this cross play shit to happen we could compete from both and more platforms. And if it doesn't I play Xbox mostly so It don't really matter I guess.

I'm with you on this. Its really up to Playstation tho.

Both consoles need to come to an agreement and give the game to everyone at once.

Wasnt it Phil Spencer that said Its all about the gamers . Oh, I love when corporations go out and say its about the consumer but then try to screw over there competition and by doing that screwing over gamers in the process.

Classy move Microsoft.

I hope they do but I also hope they dont do that, I play both consoles so I really dont matter to me, but friends who want to play it on PS are kinda stuck.

ODST
lbreadstickl I normally wouldn't like this cause I wanna do cross network with PlayStation, but since Sony won't do it with Microsoft for any game, good. F em

Lol you know it was the other way around last console generation right? Sony was looking for crossplay and Microsoft said no. Microsoft only started making this whole ordeal a big deal when Sony said no for this generation. Microsoft is probably the biggest cry baby business I've ever seen.

Show me the proof cause I googled it and couldn't find shit. If anyone's crying its Sony cause they can't coddle their customer and make sure they are secure in a cross play game lol bunch of bs

I had hoped this would be an exlusive for quite a while but doesn't look so.

I had a feeling they would want to get involved with this even more.

Me
Fibril Well I'd like to see cross play at some point plus increased exclusivity means they'd lose money for not taking it to all consoles.

They could setup a contract were they make it were pubg will sell there game to Xbox for a set price and then Xbox makes all money from the copys being sold on Xbox.

Yeah they could, anything is possible I guess :P
