Kinect breaking 'older' Xbox 360 consoles?

according to third party reports, a number of of Xbox 360 owners are claiming that Kinect broke their system. A thread on the official Xbox forums contains a number of players saying their system died after plugging Kinect in. One example is as follows - "At the weekend I spent £130 on a Kinect and a further £30 on Dance Central, so when I got home I excitedly plugged it into my Xbox... However within 5 minutes it froze up and when I turned it on again it had the dreaded 3 red rings showing." Following this, another user responded confirming the same event!

i got a 2 year xbox that handles it fine

but I bet if he unplugged Kinect it would work fine

like for example the fan for 360 causes red rings but if you unplug it your fine

That's why i don't try to be one of the first in my area to get it.

I wait till they see problems, diagnose them, fix them, then when it's 100% unharmful, i think about buying it.

Okay, well I have a 2y/o pro, but I've used my new Kinect many times on it. Would I still be at risk for this happening in the future?

The problem with this is that the kinect and game require more from the processors. On the older systems, they red ring because of this..

Causing cold sold joints..

I guarantee you, you pull the secondary error codes, it's going to pertain to the GPU..

So to sum it up, the kinect/games require more from the console/processors/chips thus causing problems for the older/weaker motherboards..

The slim was designed Kinect ready so it should be ok but my friend has had this problem and called microsoft and they just said he was making things up. he was not happy as you can guess
